Golfclub Almeerderhout, Netherlands

Located conveniently close to where I live, GolfClub Almeerderhout offers an impressive golfing experience with its 27-hole layout and an additional 9-hole par-3 course. The entire facility is truly exceptional. They have a spacious putting green, a dedicated bunker practice area, and a separate chipping and pitching green—all meticulously maintained, making it an ideal place to practice.

The driving range is also very large, with plenty of targets to aim for, which adds to the overall experience. While the range balls are a bit firm, they’re still better than those at other courses. An interesting perk is that the range is free, though it’s primarily meant for members and players with green fees.

On my first visit, I played all three of the 9-hole courses. Though they share some similarities, each course has its own unique challenges. The par-4 holes can be quite demanding, there are some shorter but enjoyable par-3s, and the par-5s are well-designed. A few holes feature doglegs, and having played them once, I now know where to better place my shots off the tee next time. Some holes are extremely narrow due to the trees, so if you’re a player who can drive the ball far, you’ll find opportunities to cut corners and shorten those longer holes.

The greens were rolling beautifully. While they don’t have dramatic slopes, they aren’t entirely flat either. It almost felt like there were subtle, hidden breaks, but nothing too intimidating. My putting and chipping felt strong, and despite my long game not being as sharp, I was able to score well thanks to my short game.

Overall, the course offers excellent value for the price, and I’ll definitely be returning. If I had more time, this would undoubtedly become my go-to practice facility. With the variety of areas available, the only limitation is your imagination when it comes to what and how you want to practice.

The pace of play was great—I only had to wait a few times, and since I was playing alone, most groups let me play through almost immediately. The staff and service were excellent. The caddy master was clear and efficient, and when they moved my tee time up earlier, they kept me updated regularly. One thing I noticed, which might be a Dutch custom, is that they don’t always fill tee times to capacity. So if a group of two or three books a time, they don’t automatically add a fourth player, which I appreciated.
